Our Founding Belief is that entrepreneurship is fundamental to the future development of youth and creating pathways out of poverty. Core to our desire is to prepare adolescents for a productive and independent adulthood by acquiring new skills, having educational and economic achievements, and positive behavior.
The goal of the program is to teach the participants leadership, self-discipline, determination, entrepreneurship and academics in a new learning environment. We will measure the success of the program by tracking soft skills related to positive outcomes in the student’s life. These will include students demonstrating an increase in leadership participation in school, the community, or in other activities along with their ability to become a positive force in the lives of others. We will also track hard skills demonstrating an academic improvement by testing the students on what they learned and following school grade report improvement during the program and up to a year following completion.
The foundation for designing this entrepreneurship is grounded in the notion that if students can improve their motivation to achieve, their focus of control and self-esteem, as well as demonstrate creativity, the more likely they are to avoid self-destructive behaviors such as teenage pregnancy, drug-abuse, violence and gang participation. The program will offer students an incentive for thinking creatively about an industry, and broadening their understanding of career opportunities.
Initial outcomes for youth in entrepreneurship programs are expected to include increases in knowledge and changes in attitudes with regard to the following:
- Entrepreneurship
- Work readiness and employ ability
- Civic engagement
- Interpersonal skills
- Academics
Intermediate/longer-term outcomes for youth in youth entrepreneurship programs include increases in:
- Life skills
- Problem-solving skills
- Interpersonal communication skills
- Technology skills
- Employability and work readiness
- Academic achievement
- Educational Attainment
- Positive interpersonal relationships
